What is Lutheran Worship?
Lutheran worship is a way of celebrating and expressing faith in God. It is a continual conversation between God and the believer, in which we focus on Jesus, who is present with and for us through his Word and Sacraments. Through the hymns, liturgy, and prayers we receive the precious gifts our Lord desires to give us: the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.
Lutheran worship follows the church-year calendar with Bible readings appointed for each Sunday and festival. It involves the active participation of the congregation in prayers, hymns, and liturgical songs. It also includes the Word of God proclaimed through song, scripture, preaching, prayer, and the Sacraments (sacred acts commanded by Christ) of Baptism and Holy Communion. Lutheran worship is based on the historic worship of the Christian faith.
Rev.
